This is a members only trip, and there are a couple of spaces left on the minibus, which leaves from outside the Pelican at 6.30 pm. Booking is essential and don’t forget you will need your membership card with you.

The February social event is on Wednesday 11th, and will start at the Gala Club in Fairmile Gardens, where we will present the certificate for being our CAMRA in Gloucester Club of the Year. All being well the intention is to wander along to the Farmers Club. Meeting time is 8.00 pm as usual, but if you need to get a bus out to the Gala Club, there should be a no. 98 leaving town at 7.25 pm.

Although very close together, Thursday 12th February is CAMRA night (not exclusive) at the Pelican for the start of their Winter Ales Festival. Around 8.00 pm we will present Mike with the certificate for CAMRA in Gloucester Pub of the Year. Although the festival will go on into the weekend, on the Thursday night, there will be a tutored beer tasting for members, and the option of a “cellar tour”. For those who did the cellar tour last year, it will be interesting to see the recent extension” to the cellar.

There is a minibus trip on Friday 27th February which will leave from the Pelican at 6.30 pm. This trip will be to the Red Lion at Arlingham where we will be presenting the certificate for CAMRA in Gloucester Rural Pub of the Year. Bookings are required for this trip, as they also are for Friday 27th March when we will be heading to Worcestershire.

March events can be seen on the website or in the Tippler.

Pubs

As you will be aware there have been some changes in our pubs. Some of these may have already been reported or are known to you, but worth saying again. Please do remember that if you have any pub news please let me know, it is impossible for us to visit all 100+ pubs on our patch on a regular basis.

The Royal Oak at Hucclecote has been refurbished, but they have hidden the real ales around the corner in the Sports Bar, so you need to hunt for them.

Norman is now installed at the Station Hotel, and there has been a quick change at the Dick Whittington with Martyn taking over (ex Pig, and the Crown).

New Landlords/Landladies can be found at England’s Glory and at the Bat and Ball in Churchdown.

Gloucester Beer Festival

The dates are confirmed as 24th and 25th April.
